amulets
looking back through old sketchbooks, I found some pages of vague not-quite-anything thoughts about stories around amulets and charms. This was at the time of the Cheltenham Illustration Award 2012, which took the Pitt Rivers collection of these as the starting point for a brief. i don't know if it's just because they belong to me, but all these bits seem to add up to something closer to the atmosphere i wanted in the work i made at the end of it.

We do dinner every Thursday
A small painting of mine (this one in fact) will be in the Mill Road Winter Fair exhibition on Saturday 1st December. If you're there on the day, scamper along to the drama centre (on the same street as the six bells), i'm sure there'll be plenty of less peculiar pictures there too.

LOAf needs you!
Hello lovely readers -
Would you be interested in investing a few pence judiciously in something terrific? Then read on...
LOAf is a fresh new comics magazine for 9-12 year-olds, coming to a bookshop near you! The publication is designed to be relevant, entertaining and helpful for the young people who read it, some of whom will also get to collaborate with the magazine's contributing artists at our comics and story-making workshops in Bristol and Cambridge this autumn.
LOAf provides an opportunity for some incredibly imaginative and hardworking narrative artists from across the UK to see their work independently published in a beautiful, full colour anthology of comics, puzzles and other visual and literary treats.
Please take a moment to watch the film, read about the project and forward this email to anyone who you think would be interested in supporting LOAf.
In order to print and distribute the magazine and fund the workshops, we need to raise at least £2000 by the 24th September.
Please help us make the LOAf a reality - we're very excited about this and would love to spread that excitement as far as it will go in print form.. x

snore
When we go over
to my grandad's
he falls asleep.
While he's asleep
he snores.
When he wakes up
he says,
'Did I snore?
did I snore?
did I snore?'
Everyone says, 'No,
you didn't snore.'
Why do we lie to him?
Michael Rosen. An ingenious fellow.

better late than never..
We've been and gone and done the exhibition! And it came together so lovely! It was up at Foyles on Charing Cross Road:
Work by Narisa Togo (on the left) and Rosie Byrne (the baby on the right).
Liza Smith's dolls. well shod and rosie on a shelf,
that's where I'd like to be come 70.
Heidi Deedman makes hilarious books. And I know it won't be long before your nearest library will be pushing them too. We won the Sebastian Walker award together.
Here's me looking shifty in a picture that is meant to
demonstrate beyond a doubt that this is definitely My Work. hmm.
I'm afraid I was rubbish and only took a very few pictures - but you can see more, and find further links to others in the exhibition, on our blog, here.
